How a Chiropractor can help with pregnancy

This blog is a guest blogger this week. She is a Chiropractor in Baraboo. She is amazing and I learned so much just from this blog. Let me or Melanie know if you have any questions or comments. Her website is burkhalterchiro.com So here she is :)

I am Dr. Melanie Arsenault-Burkhalter, a third generation Doctor of Chiropractic, married to one as well and we have been in practice in Baraboo for over 23 years. One of the most favorite parts of my busy day in my practice is seeing my prenatal patients. Chiropractic care during pregnancy is vital to the normal physiological function of the mother and baby throughout pregnancy and birth. A Doctor of Chiropractic utilizes gentle adjustments to restore misaligned vertebra and or pelvic bones allowing the nerves to properly communicate with the rest of the body. It is a drug less preventative approach to optimum health. It is very gentle and safe for pregnant patients, newborns, children, teens, athletes & adults of all ages. Besides my own children, my youngest patient was 12 hours old and my oldest was in her late 90's. These gentle chiropractic adjustments bring balance into the pelvis. This allows the baby to do what it's supposed to do. These adjustments include The Webster Technique. It is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment. The main goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of pelvic imbalance, meaning it balances pelvic muscles and ligaments, which reduces the torsion to the uterus. When the uterus is in balance, the baby has plenty of room to move around on a daily basis and get ready for birth. According to William's Obstetrics, dystocia is caused by inadequate uterine function (POWER), pelvic contraction (PASSAGE), and baby mal-presentation (PASSENGER). The correction of a sacral subluxation may have a positive effect on all of three of these causes of dystocia. Doctors of Chiropractic help those sacral subluxations through gentle adjustments which improve uterine function, balance of the pelvis and reduce tension to the pelvic muscles and ligaments. When balance is restored to the Mother's pelvis, her uterus and pelvis function better. This reduces undue stress to Mom's ligaments and muscles making pregnancy and birth more comfortable. Many of my prenatal patients have told me how much they look forward to their adjustments, especially towards the end of their 40 weeks. This pelvis balance also allows the optimal space for baby to grow throughout pregnancy and line up in the best possible position for birth. Many of my prenatal patients continue their care post birth, and they bring their newborns in to get checked as well. Gentle CHIROPRACTIC care is for the whole family. I've had generations of patients come through my office as well as many students who are now starting chiropractic college. One of them being my own son. He will be a 4th generation DC. This makes my heart so very happy. A new generation of caring doctors taking care of our community. Check out her Website burkhalterchiro.com
